Die Deutscher kommer

Barnet v Rochdale is rarely a fixture to whet the appetite, but things were a little different this time. Alex & Christoph, our friends from Bochum, had travelled over to see the game. Coupled with our new flag, which was making it's first outing and my housewarming party, it promised to be a good day.

We met at Pete's place to admire the flags.

At the ground, Village was delighted with his new recruits to Barnet's global fanclub and proudly put up the Azzurro flag. Later it made its way onto the South Stand.

Happy times on the East Terrace.

The game was an exciting 0-0 draw. Real Football, Real Fans.

Afterwards, we retired to the Pav, and then after some food in the Railway Bell headed back to mine.

Carpy drunk.

Pete drunk.

Christoph reliving the highlights of the game.

We return to Germany in two weeks time where we'll once again be meeting the Bochumer's in the Bierkutscher, before heading on to the Vfl - FCN game. I hope it isn't 0-0.

Safe Standing Day: 9th September 2007

The Sky game between Wycombe and Brentford had been designated 'Safe Standing Day'. The idea was for supporters of clubs around the country to unite for fan choice, which is increasingly denied to us.

Tom, Sam and Olly helped make up the banners before the game. These read: 'Football Fans United' and 'Standing: A Safe Choice'.

In Wycombe, I made my way to the executive box where I was made a V.I.P. Here we met the directors who had put such a fantastic effort into making the day a success. Our banners were then paraded around the pitch, although shamefully Sky completely ignored the event. Perhaps it doesn't fit their cosy image of a game in which everything is perfect.

The Barnet contingent, with V.I.P.

Everyone had a great time, as these pictures show.

Apparently we need all-seated grounds to attract women and children to the game. Obviously no-one told these people:

Or them.
Supporters from 25 different clubs came to Wycombe to support the event. A special mention to the Stoke supporter celebrating her 88th birthday on the Valley Terrace. The day was a great success and a great advert for Safe Standing.
