Flags and Friends

Our friends from Germany visited again on the 29th December, driving through the night from Bochum to be in Barnet to see our game against Chesterfield. True dedication chaps. As part of our preperations, we put together a BFC/VFL friendship banner.

For the first time, we used bondaweb material, which you peel off and iron onto the fabric of the flag.

Tudor putting some finishing touches.

We tried a couple of things for the 'VFL' ...

... before settling on this:

Hemming the sides. Pete is getting really good at sewing.

Boo.

On a sad note, the game was to be Liam Hatch's last for the club. Hatchy has been with us for four and a half years, a player like none before, whose enthusiasm on the pitch and the karaoke machine was second to none. We put together a banner to say farewell.

The Germans arrived at Pete's at 7am (!) so we went down to the ground for a few photos.

L-R are Sven, Bjorn, Alex, Daniel, Marcus, Pete (not German)

Then it was down to the Queen's for a couple of pints. We tried to explain the concept of warm English beer but they didn't 'get' it.

Moving onto the Pav, Village had found this chap, a Parisian journalist working for L'Equipe. He was writing a feature on Barnet.

Inside the ground:

Cool flag!

Unfortunately we lost the game 2-0, though we weren't too dispirited. We simply retired to the Pav to weigh up the evenings entertainment options.

And onto the pub for some food.

We capped off the night by heading into town, though we came back again not long after as our visitors were, frankly, exhausted. Not surprising. All in all a great day though. We meet again in February.
